Large old French dressing table or bathroom set consisting of its basin and its pitcher of the Jules Vie Mieve Bordeaux manufacture (JVB). The model is Rouen. Rare to find! Important broca and its polychrome enameled earthenware basin, “Rouen” model, with a decoration of lambrequins and vegetable scrolls, brands on the back in blue and brands in hollow “BH”. Work from the end of the 19th century.
In 1835, this factory was bought by the Irishman David Johnston. He then produced parts inspired by the very competitive English Faience Earthenware of Staffordshire. His business will employ up to 700 workers. In 1844, Jules Old, employee of David Johnston, bought the factory in financial difficulty. It was renamed Jules Vie Moiser & Cie in 1845. Production is industrialized and refocused only on fine earthenware. This quality earthenware will be rewarded during universal exhibitions.
Dimension :
The broc: height: 33 cm / 13 “Length: 25 cm / 9.9” in good condition
The basin: diameter: 41.5 cm / 16.2 “height: 14 cm / 5.5”
Restored with the old technique. You can see staples that have been placed at the bottom of the basin. It is a 19th century repair technique that we no longer know how to repair. This piece has an attribution mark,
