Fish in pâte de verre in shades of green and blue, signed A Walter Nancy
Good condition, small chip at the mouth of the fish and under the tail)
Art Nouveau
Amalric Walter, born in 1870, trained at the Manufacture de Sèvres, then set up on his own to produce pâte de verre and earthenware (few examples have survived).
After winning an award at the 1900 Universal Exhibition, between 1905 and 1915 he collaborated with Daum, creating over a hundred art nouveau glass paste models (animals, floral decorations, etc.) based on designs by chief decorator Henri Bergé.
His reputation established, both in Paris and Nancy, he set up his own workshop and continued his work with Bergé; over 500 models resulted from their collaboration.
As the work and technique of pâte de verre is complex and slow, the number of copies of each piece is limited.
Amalric Walter closed his studio in 1935.
